venaria reale

La Venaria Reale: Stage of Wonder

While the Europe of the Courts developed projects that were urban planning, but also social and ideal for modern states in the mid-seventeenth century, Piedmont actively participated in them; indeed, it was one of the places where they were most fully realized. Hence the challenge to relaunch this model today: Venaria as one of the important pieces of the network of courts where Europe was formed and, above all, developed.

Hanbury Botanical Gardens: when nature becomes romantic beauty

The Quakers believe that a garden should reflect a divine order in which science, beauty and religion interact. I find that this is still evident today, and credit is due to the University for not having attempted to turn it into a park or to use it as a money-making scheme, but rather for having left it as close to nature as possible, so that it retains a spirit of tranquillity and timelessness.

palladio roma

Tomaso Buzzi and the shapes of dreams

Eclectic and refined, Tomaso Buzzi was one of the leading Italian architects and designers of the 20th century. His interests were multifaceted and intertwined, underpinned by a boundless creative imagination. In the 1920s and 1930s, he was one of the leading exponents of Italian Art Deco, and throughout his professional career as an architect and interior designer, he was among the most sought-after figures by the Italian middle classes and aristocracy. Wannenes Properties – the auction house’s boutique estate agency – presents ‘Villa Palladio’ in Rome, a project of sumptuous aesthetic and architectural beauty that Tomaso Buzzi designed in the late 1950s on commission from the Italian-Swiss diplomat Jean Louis Marcoli.
